About Suzanne Poort

Suzanne Poort (Utrecht, The Netherlands, 21 February 1981) finds herself inspired by the power of shape, material and colour. Her sensual way of designing shoes shows her love for materials, techniques and craftsmanship.
Themes she uses in her collections are all about beauty and traditions. A translation of those inspirations she puts in styling, by colour choices and treatment. All shoes shown on this website are designed and made by herself.
In 2004 Suzanne graduated from the Academy of Art in Arnhem (ArtEZ), specialized in shoe design. Her final year project earned her the prestigious nomination for the Roos-Gesink Award for the most talented designer.
Next to this design study her graduation at the school for handcrafted shoemaking (SVGB-OSLO) made her profession complete. The Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture granted her a starter stipend in 2005.
After this successful kick-off magazines wrote laudatory reviews and used her shoes for many photo shoots. Companies showed there interests in her skills.
From 2005 till 2008 Suzanne was commissioned for several shoe design collections and she advised different companies in the use of colour and materials.
Next to these freelance assignments she expressed herself in her cooperation with fashion designer Percy Irausquin for three collections in a row. She designed and made exclusively handmade shoes with special nose shapes and sexy lines which made the perfect combination with his creations. These sets were shown on several catwalks including the Dutch touch New York fashion show and during the Amsterdam International Fashion Week.
In January 2008 Suzanne started to develop collections for the Dutch shoe brand TMK. Every season she launched a new collection with her own inspiration and designs. She was asked to give direction to the brand with her vision and characteristic handwriting. Unfortunately the company that owned TMK went into bankruptcy in October 2009. From December 2009 Suzanne worked for the Dutch shoes & accessories brand Fred de la Bretoniere as a member of the Design Studio. After this experience a new challenge came her way in September 2010. Suzanne works now together with the worldwide famous Dutch shoe designer Jan Jansen and continues to create beautiful shoes and accessories on a high creative level.
